Bridging the digital gap between regional Australia and the world
It’s predicted that the NBN will have a bigger positive impact on regional communities than in the cities. All Australian communities, even in remote areas, will have greater access to goods and services online. People living in rural and remote areas will have improved access to specialists and doctors without having to travel long distances. Students will have opportunities to expand their learning through access to education and research through material transmitted through the internet in real-time. And regional businesses with an online presence will become more competitive in a globally connected world.
Fair access for all
One of the Australian Government’s key objectives for the NBN is that a person’s ability to receive affordable high-speed broadband should not be affected by where they live or work. With uniform national wholesale pricing around Australia, the NBN will ensure that every community in regional Australia has fair access to affordable high-speed broadband––including remote communities. People will pay the same wholesale price for the same broadband service, whether they live in the cities or in the bush.
It’s all part of the Australian Government’s Digital Economy Goal to significantly narrow the gap between households and businesses in capital cities and those in regional areas by 2020.
