In Home Telemonitoring for Veterans

The Australian Government is undertaking a trial of in-home telemonitoring services for veterans that takes advantage of the reliable, high speed and high capacity broadband delivered by the National Broadband Network (NBN). The trial aims to improve the quality of life of our veteran community and will allow veterans to access high quality health care from home.

Under the trial, veterans and war widows with specific chronic conditions can have their health monitored, using telemonitoring equipment, by health professionals, without leaving their home. These chronic conditions include congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or diabetes. Overseas experience has shown that home based telemonitoring can have significant health benefits for those involved, including more responsive management of chronic conditions.

The trial will commence from July 2012 in a number of early NBN release sites around Australia.
