The National Broadband Network (NBN)-enabled Telehealth Pilots Program aims to demonstrate how NBN infrastructure enables better access to high quality healthcare services, particularly aged care, palliative care and cancer care, using telehealth services in the home.
On 22 January 2012, the Minister for Health, the Hon. Tanya Plibersek MP and the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator the Hon. Stephen Conroy, announced the release of draft guidelines for the Program for public comment.
The Department of Health and Ageing is inviting comment on the draft guidelines from any individual or organisation with an interest in telehealth. The guidelines are a framework for the Program, its aims, objectives and priorities.
Comments on the draft guidelines have now closed. The Department of Health and Ageing expects to release the final guidelines with the call for proposals in March 2012.
More information on the program, including a copy of the draft guidelines, can be found at www.health.gov.au/ehealth
