Construction underway on 3.5 million premises over three years
Under NBN Co’s first three year rollout plan, more than 3.5 million homes, schools, hospitals and businesses will gain access to high-speed optic fibre services. It’s the start of a major national infrastructure project that will be rolled out over 10 years.
The three year plan will be updated annually until the rollout is complete.

Fast facts
- More than 3.5 million Australian premises will have, or be on the way to having, optic fibre services in the next three years.
- Construction of the optic fibre network is underway or completed in more than 40 communities.
- On average, it will take 12 months from the start of the optic fibre network rollout in a given area until people can connect to the NBN.
Optic fibre available now
Optic fibre broadband services are now available in eight communities around Australia:
- NSW – Armidale, Kiama
- Qld – Townsville
- SA – Aldinga
- Tas – Midway Point, Scottsdale, Smithton
- Vic – Brunswick

Which areas will get optic fibre?
Over the next three years, the number of homes and businesses which will have, or be on the way to having, NBN optic fibre services are:
- 1,010,700 in New South Wales
- 691,600 in Victoria
- 678,600 in Queensland
- 429,200 in Western Australia
- 327,300 in South Australia
- 135,300 in the Australian Capital Territory
- 65,200 in the Northern Territory
- 209,100 in Tasmania
