How will I benefit?

How the NBN will benefits Australian households
How the NBN will benefits Australian households

The NBN will transform the way we do many things at home and work

Internet and phone
When you get the NBN, if you are in a fibre area, your telephone will operate over the NBN instead of the copper network. Using your phone over the NBN won’t be much different to now, but it may be cheaper.

Some service providers offer plans with a phone service at no extra charge so you don’t need to pay separate line rental.

The NBN will give all Australian homes and businesses access to fast, reliable and affordable broadband services. Unlike most existing networks, the NBN’s capacity and high download and upload speeds will allow us to access a variety of services at one time with guaranteed quality.

Check out the independent plan comparison website WhistleOut . Details of all of the service providers are available on NBN Co’s website .

Education
The NBN will create new opportunities for education. It has the potential to change the way we learn and teach and will give you greater access to educational opportunities, no matter where you live.

Kids in school will be able to chat to a class in Indonesia using videoconferencing. More people will have the opportunity to study at their chosen university, regardless of whether they live in rural or regional Australia, or find it hard to get to classes due to work or family reasons.

Health
One of the greatest benefits the NBN will offer you is improved access to health services––some consultations and health monitoring will be possible from the comfort of your own home.

With the NBN, you won’t have to travel so far to see specialists, because you and your doctor will be able to have the appointment through video consultation, saving you time and reducing travel costs.

Family and entertainment
With the NBN, you’ll be able to catch up with friends and family easily with high quality video calls from your lounge room. The NBN will also give you access to a better range of entertainment in your home.

With greater speeds and reliability you’ll be able to stream your favourite television shows and movies from your computer or internet-connected television and gaming will be much faster. Plus you’ll be able to do many of these things at the same time.

Business
Australian businesses all around the country, big or small, have the opportunity to reduce costs, increase efficiency and find new markets. The NBN will open up opportunities for businesses to conduct more online sales, transfer data more easily, hold virtual meetings, or liaise with suppliers across Australia online––potentially saving time and costs associated with travelling and transferring information.
Through the NBN, businesses will be able to expand their markets and customer bases to compete nationally, or globally, using video and high-resolution images to show their products and services to customers.

Teleworking
With better broadband, the NBN will make working from home easier. Increased broadband speeds and reliability will create more opportunities for flexible work practices, like teleworking. The NBN will give you the ability to access videoconferencing, virtual offices, and send and receive large files from home.
