With the NBN, all Australian homes and businesses will have access to high-speed, affordable broadband.
NBN packages are already proving to be competitive with existing broadband services, such as ADSL.
You can easily compare your current plan with NBN offerings, by checking the independent plan comparison website WhistleOut . Details of all of the service providers are available on NBN Co’s website .
As a customer, this means greater competition and greater choice. So you’ll still have your choice of service provider, data speeds, data volume and the price you pay.
Current retail prices for broadband delivered over the NBN are around the same as, or even cheaper than, prices for ADSL2+ services delivered over the copper network, but for faster and more reliable services.
Plans start from as little as $30 a month for 12 megabits per second (Mbps) download speeds and one Mbps upload service and a 15 gigabyte (GB) monthly data allowance.
Other service providers are charging around $50 a month for a 25 Mbps download service and a 50 GB a month data allowance.
If you want even higher speeds and more data, there are plans of up to 100 Mbps download and upload speeds of 40 Mbps, for reasonable prices.
Some offers include a phone service at no extra charge so you don’t need to pay separate line rental for a home phone.
NBN Co also offers a uniform national wholesale access price of $24 per month across all technologies for its basic service of 12 Mbps download and one Mbps upload.
This means wholesale broadband prices for comparable products will be the same for households and businesses no matter where they are located. This also means every Australian community – metropolitan, regional, rural and remote – will have access to high-speed broadband services at affordable retail prices.
More than 30 retail internet service providers are already offering plans over the NBN and competition between NBN service providers has already resulted in some providers lowering their prices and increasing their data allowances.
